Adding the dive platform

One of the first things we did was to order a custom fiberglass dive platforms from butlermarine.com.  We read on the Chris Craft Commander Club web site that these guys had created a mold that would closely match the nonstandard transom shape of the Commander boats.

First we removed the old boat name and then gel coated the transom.

And then we spent the better part of 2 days bolting this 350# beast into place and trying to get it just perfect left, right, up down and level.  You can see below how the platform conforms very nicely to the transom, which comes to a point in the middle instead of being a smooth arc from port to stbd. like most transoms do.

We were generally pleased with the build quality of Butler's offering but such nice work does not come cheap.  It was about $3500, delivered to the marina.  But if you've ever tried to build something professional like this which is flat where it is supposed to be flat but has the right curves in all the right places you will realize that just the materials for this is probably $1200 or more and then someone had to take time and trouble to make a mold that will not be used again.  Our platform was not an off the shelf deal; we told them just how wide and how deep to make it.  It's literally wide enough to put a folding table and a couple of chairs back there for breakfast with the fish.

This is one of the first things we did and we were happy with the progress thus far.  Ignorance is, of course, bliss.
